A Collection of Photo Collages – by Audrey Gretz

Today, artist Audrey Gretz takes us on a trip through the fictional-reality of the photo collage.  Inspired by her multitude of interests in the arts, photography, and different cultures, she invites us to a world that is messy and grungy, but undeniably dreamy all the same.  In traditional singular photos, the viewer derives meaning and context, and beauty from that which is conveyed by the cohesiveness of the ideas within.  This is in distinct contrast to the various subjects that are removed from their original photographs and fused together to create entirely new original works.  A handwritten note, a random girl added to a photograph, and various everyday objects in the works assure us an instant familiarity with these new worlds.  Photos that are cut out from other places are unapologetically plastered through the series, with a permeance that may change at anytime.  One thing is for sure – we yearn to be there with the subjects, as if they were pop up characters in an ongoing story from the imagination of a young girl, where anything is possible.
